AKTIV Apparel

Who is Keegan Thompson/Aktiv Apparel?

I love creating things. Whether that's writing a song, taking a picture, or
learning to film. The idea of bringing something into existence is enthralling
to me. My first creative outlet was skateboarding. I began skateboarding at the
age of 13. The expression in one's skateboarding style and choice of brands they
choose to rep is an extension of who they are. At the age of 17, I began to play
guitar and write songs. It was a more personal form of creativity, but
creativity nonetheless. Ever since I was 13, I just wanted to create and express
 myself in everything I did.

What lead you to clothing?

I wanted to get into clothing because it blends both my left and right brain. My
favorite part of running my own clothing line is the creative process that goes
into designs, fabrics, and fit. However, I also love the business side of
things. I like working with numbers, creating marketing strategies, and looking
for trends in the marketplace. I just like to put out product that I think looks
dope and hope people like the vibe I am representing.

What can fans expect from AKTIV Apparel?

I just want to say that it is VERY humbling to have fans of the brand! It's what
keeps me creating. Anyways, fans can expect to see more lifestyle products. When
I say lifestyle, I mean more stylish products. For example, I am about to
release crop tops, flow boxy tee's, and super comfy, yet stylish, slouchy tee's
for women. I don't want Aktiv to be solely associated with gym apparel. Although
fitness is a part of the brand, it's definitely not the brands entirety.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I draw a lot of my inspiration from the skateboarding culture and the fashion
scene on the west coast. As far as personal inspiration, I look up to a film
maker/vlogger by the name of Casey Neistat (look him up if you haven't heard of
him). For professional inspiration, I look up to a Randall Pich. Randall is the
founder of a lifestyle brand Live Fit. I love his attitude and work ethic. The
dude works incredibly hard and he is exactly where I want to be.

What is an item you can’t live without?

I don't know if this is a typical answer, but my phone 100%. I love seeing what
people are doing & what people are interested in. I love getting a glimpse into
other's lives. Not in a creepy way, but just as a curious human. I am constantly
 on all of social.
I also made the mistake of switching from iphone and android.....and I cannot
 wait to switch back.

Best advice you have received (or best advice you could give to someone)

This quote I read from Aristotle literally changed my way of thinking -
"We are
what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." -
Going off of that quote, I want people to realize that they can do/be
anything they want, They just have to work for it. My generation lives in a
world of instant gratification. Everyone wants to be great, but no one wants to
work for it. I firmly believe that if anyone works toward their dream for at
least four hours everyday, it will eventually become a reality.

How do you stay true to yourself?

I stay true to myself by not worrying about what others think about me or what I
do. Sure, it's hard to keep this mindset every day, but I try my best to. I stay
focused on myself and what I want out of my life. I try to limit distractions as
much as possible. I listen to my gut and believe in myself and my decisions.

Finish the sentence “I feel most natural when…”

I feel most natural when I am creating. I have a full time job as a data analyst
and I feel like a robot every day I go in the office. It feels like I'm
pretending to be something else when I sit at that office desk. Even after
working nine hours a day, I get so hyped when I get off work, because it means I
get to go home and create.
