Inspirational Interview: Jordan Anderson
Who is Jordan Anderson?
“I am a country music singer, songwriter, and I love Jesus. I got into music and always wanted to use that platform to spread positivity and hope in a world where sometimes we don’t always get that on a day-to-day basis. Music has always been a positive for me growing up and that’s why I ventured into music and what my life journey has been about.”
What does an “average” day look like for you?
“The beautiful thing about being a musician is that everyday is a new adventure. Normally I have some project or something I’m working on and so I have to get in contact with my band and organizing meetings, things like that. Then I like to take a little time out and do some songwriting. I always find it really important to find some point in my day for some quiet time, just like away from the world and have a chance to refuel. Then I have a part-time job, so it’s a pretty average life just music centered.”
“My latest project that I just finished up on, was an EP that we released a few singles off of to radio. My last single was “American Dream” which was about my journey and moving to Nashville. I was a Colorado native, then lived in Florida for a little bit, then just decided to leave it all and move to Nashville and chase this crazy dream. So that EP as a whole was kind of just about my over all journey getting to Nashville which was really fun to work on. Now I’m in the studio working on a brand new project, it’s something I’ve never done before but it is the most excited I’ve been about. I can’t give away too many details just yet but I’m going to be very active on all forms of social media, mostly Instagram, for fans to look for stuff. Over the next couple of months I’ll be posting teasers and more details about it, so I’d love it for those who want to be a part of this journey to go on there and follow me and be part of this with me.”
Who/What is something that inspires you and why?
“A general aspect of what inspires me is when I hear stories of people who have pursued their dreams relentlessly or have gone though something difficult and persevered through it. Those are the stories when something difficult in my life is going on I’ll think back to them and realize what I’m going through is nothing compared to that. Not being cheesy in any way, but an example is Tim Tebow, he is someone I have looked up to because he is someone who has seen his dream and has been knocked down but though it all he never gives up and always stays so positive. You never see him hating on anyone and he uses his platform and position to bring joy to others. Then every once in a while a story will come up on my news feed about him making some kids dreams come true and I’m just like “man what did I do with my day” and stories like that really inspire me to keep going.”
What is something that makes you feel truly beautiful?
“This is extraordinarily girly of me, and this would not have been the answer ten years ago, but I always feel the most beautiful when I’m wearing a dress. I don’t know what it is about dresses but there is just something about when I decide I’m going to wear a dress that day my confidence is just boosted. When I was younger I was a tomboy so I never wore dresses, so it’s like a new revolution to me like oh wow dresses are really pretty. So that’s the most consistent thing that makes me feel extra confident and extra beautiful just being able to put on a nice sun-dress.”
What is something you do to keep a positive attitude.
“It’s and every day battle, but I always try to catch myself if I’m starting to think negative and I try to remember the glass half full picture. I have to remind myself I have this and that happening and things will work its self out. Really just speaking words of affirmation to myself. Just reminding myself “It’s okay, you’re fine”.”
How do you stay true to yourself?
“It can be intimidating when you see what is successful in the industry and realize that, that is not what you want to do. I was really lucky growing up being surrounded by friends and family who always encouraged me to be myself, I grew up in an atmosphere where it was okay to just be myself. As I got older and in the music industry where everything is picked apart and you are pushed to be certain ways, having that background, really helped me. I just have to remember it’s one of those things where you’re going to be happiest when you’re just being natural, doing your thing, and being you. Again it is speaking those words of affirmation and saying to yourself “you are beautiful, you’re awesome” and remembering what works for one person doesn’t have to be the standard. You will find your avenue and find that person who believes in you if you just stick to who you are and what makes you happy and in the end people will respect that more. I really did think people would make fun of me more for being on the “goody two shoes” side and conservative, but because I have stuck to my guns and in the end have had a lot more people respect me and longer relationships with them because they see who I am and can be themselves around me. I guess long story short, it’s having those words of affirmation and owning who you want to be and everything else will follow.”
Any advice for someone trying to come up in the music industry?
“Love who you are, be proud of who you are, own it, and don’t let anyone tell you how you should be.”
Finish the sentence “I feel most natural when…”
“Honestly, for me, I feel most natural when I’m taking quiet time to myself. I’m not having to worry about anything or anyone else and just feel most natural when it’s just me and my own thoughts and ideas.”
